PHEAA and Sallie Mae have combined Pennsylvania’s Keystone Direct Stafford Loan Program and Sallie Mae’s Great Rewards to offer KEYSTONE REWARDS, a new low-cost Stafford Loan program for all Pennsylvania students who borrow from a participating lender.

The application process for a student loan is easy! Students should complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) reporting their family financial circumstances. PHEAA, as a participating lender, will then provide you with a Stafford Loan Application/Promissory Note to complete.

The financial aid office at your campus will instruct you as to which of the following Federal Loan Programs you qualify for, based on the financial aid forms you submit.

Standard Stafford Eligibility -

•  Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible Non-Citizen
•  Be accepted for enrollment in a participating school; or if enrolled, be making satisfactory  progress
•  Be classified as at least a half-time student and working towards a degree or certificate
•  Not be in default on an education loan or owe any education grant refunds
•  Be registered with the Selective Service, if required
•  Have financial need in order to receive a subsidized Stafford Loan

Help your student with a Federal PLUS Loan

These loans are federally guaranteed loans for parents and legal guardians to help finance the costs of their son’s or daughter’s post-secondary education at a college or university, or at a business, trade, technical, or nursing school.

Eligibility Requirements -

Parents must

•  Be the dependent student’s natural parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian
•  Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible Non-Citizen
•  Not be in default on an education loan or owe any education grant refunds

Dependent Undergraduates must

•  Be a U.S. Citizen or eligible Non-Citizen
•  Be accepted for enrollment at a participating school; or if enrolled, be making satisfactory progress
•  Be classified as at least a half-time student and working toward a degree or certificate
•  Not be in default on an educational loan or owe any education grant refunds
